OTC introduces pocket-able diagnostic scan tool for Ford
RSS Feed

Owatonna, Minn.--OTC introduced its new Ford Portable Diagnostic Software (PDS) Advanced Kit, a flexible and modular diagnostic tool kit that includes a hand-held Pocket PC, PDS software, and a Vehicle Communication Module (VCM) device to make the Ford PDS system. Collectively as a kit, these components represent a new diagnostic tool strategy, allowing the user to run Ford specialized software in conjunction with a Pocket PC to allow scan tool functionality.

"It's a complete tool out of the box -- with no additional equipment purchases required to operate -- offered exclusively through OTC, the PDS kit packs the power of Ford's factory scan tool into a pocket size package," said Andy Forsberg, SPX Service Solutions product manager of Electronics. "The Pocket PC gives technicians more flexibility and portability in the shop and for on-the-road testing and also offers technicians the option of using their own PC or laptop in place of the Pocket PC."

This rugged portable scan tool is CAN-compatible, supports diagnostic services for most 1996 to 2008 Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury models with a 16-pin DLC connector. The tool's flexible architecture can be programmed to execute a specific test, or can be used as a component in a test system. It offers everything from reading trouble codes to ECU programming and gives any aftermarket company the same features and opportunities to work just like the Ford dealer.

A one-year software license is included with the initial PDS purchase offering the user access to the latest OEM diagnostic software updates that are available on the PDS at no additional cost. The software subscription also allows users -- with access to a PC or laptop with internet connection -- to access live technical support, and when the first year has expired, additional update subscriptions can be purchased by downloading the latest software from www.motorcraftservice.com.
