Seattle-The 58th annual Vehicle Maintenance Management Conference (VMMC) drew more than 340 participants, presenters, and vendors to the University of Washington main campus March 23-26 during spring break.

The VMMC features dozens of training sessions for those involved in fleet maintenance services in government and the private sector. Attendees include management and technical professionals throughout North America.

Included in the event was a two-day indoor product exhibit with 35 booths, and a one-day outdoor equipment display featuring a variety of trucks, utility equipment, and special products for the fleet field. There was also a general opening session, a keynote speaker, and tech challenges during the conference.

During the VMMC board of trustees breakfast meeting on March 25, new officers of the conference were elected. Former Vice Chairman Kerry Swayne of the Washington State Department of Ecology in Bellevue was elected chairman; Gene Jakubczak with the city of Spokane, who had served as secretary, was elected vice chairman; and Bryan Bazard of Olympia with the Washington State Motor Pool, was the newly elected secretary.

John Breland of Freedom Truck Centers in Spokane, who served as chairman the past two years, relinquished the gavel to Swayne at the end of the trustees meeting.

The VMMC has a conference manager and staff from the Educational Outreach program at the University of Washington and is governed by the board of trustees representing more than 50 industry professionals from throughout the Northwest and across the nation.

VMMC committees and trustees meet throughout the year to coordinate training programs that feature extensive management and technical programs for technicians, fleet managers, fleet specialists, educators, and other industry professionals.

The 2010 VMMC will again be at Kane Hall on the University of Washington campus on March 22-25. For information, visit www.engr.washington.edu/epp/vmmc.
