Norman Affleck, retired president and CEO of Big O Tires, has been named an inductee to the Tire Industry Association (TIA) Hall of Fame for 2007. Affleck was the founding dealer member of Big O Tires Inc. and was the first president of the Centennial-based company, a position that he held for 25 years. Affleck, along with several other tire industry leaders, will be inducted on Oct. 30 in Las Vegas. The event will take place at TIA's Breakfast with the President from 6:45-9:00 a.m. in the Palace 1 Ballroom at Ceasars Palace.

Hertz is now offering its 2007 Ford Mustang Shelby GT-H convertible to customers at its Denver International Airport (DIA) location as part of its Fun Collection. Like the coupe version that debuted in 2006, the rag-top is clad in black marked with a gold "Le Mans" dual racing stripes. It's powered by a 4.6-liter V-8 engine, mated to an automatic transmission that puts out 319 horsepower. The starting rate is $119.99 per day. Make sure you take out the extra insurance; you may get a few tailgaters with this rental.
Old Cars Weekly News & Marketplace reported that a Colorado man restoring a 1958 Volkswagen bus discovered 14
pounds of marijuana along the undercarriage and in the belly pan of his restoration project. The surprised owner said he disposed the vintage pot after pulling the bound packages out of his new project. Its street value is estimated at $14,000, the article stated.
The Old Car Council of Colorado, Colorado Select NAPA AutoCare Centers, and KOOL-105 hosted a Colfax Avenue Cruise and Car Festival on Sept. 22. The event featured more than 1,000 classic cars, hot rods, street rods, and muscle cars cruising up and down East and West Colfax, said Donny Seyfer of Seyfer Automotive in Wheat Ridge.
FinishMaster, a distributor of automotive refinish products, in conjunction with Mahnke Auto Body and 3M, recently hosted a Bumper Repair class at Mahnke Auto Body in Arvada. The hands-on event took place July 24 with attendees from Farmers Insurance representatives and employees of several shops in the Fix Auto network, said Chris Johns of FinishMaster.

Andy Dowling and Cole Hartman opened A&C Motors, a general repair shop in Greybull. The pair began operating the new business at 1000 N. Sixth St. in July. Dowling also owns Andy's Truck Parts, a nearby automotive salvage business.
