Lee's Summit, Mo.--On Oct 2-3, the Kansas City Metropolitan Community Colleges (MCC)
hosted its annual Automotive Career Day at its Longview location in Lee's Summit, Mo. The two-day event brought in more than 400 high school students from Kansas and Missouri.
The event gives students an opportunity to tour the automotive technology facilities at MCC-Longview, interact with professionals in the automotive field, and participate in a number of automotive demonstrations and activities.
This year's activities included a Hunter alignment demonstration, a tire-
balancer demonstration, an information session on a Ford hybrid, an interactive computer activity about buying a car, and a car show.
The first day of the event was for high school students with a general interest in the automotive field, while the second day was geared specifically toward students enrolled in an automotive program at a 
vocational-tech school. Specifically, those who attended the second day got to participate in the employer showcase.
During the employer showcase, students met with local employers from various parts of the automotive and transportation industry to explore career opportunities and gain experience interacting with prospective employers.
"Career Day gives students a chance to visit with local employers and see our automotive technology facilities," said Shelly Summmerour, administrative assistant for the automotive department at MCC-Longview. "We have also found that a lot of students who come to Career Day end up enrolling in our automotive program."
