Bumper to Bumper certified service centers donate 12 cars to local victims of domestic violence
RSS Feed

Wichita, KS - On Nov. 10, a dozen area women who escaped domestic violence received cars from area independent business owners of Bumper to Bumper certified service centers. The service centers partnered with the Original Charity Cars Organization and Jobbers Automotive Warehouse to donate the 12 refurbished vehicles to the women.Donnie Ericson, owner of On Target Auto Repair, a Bumper to Bumper certified service center, receives the first donated vehicle—-a 1994 BMW 325i. Ericson said some touch-up work on the body had to be done along with some minor repairs, including a new battery. The refurbished BMW was donated to a local woman who escaped domestic violence. A total of 12 vehicles were donated.

The vehicles were donated from individuals in the community, and the Bumper to Bumper certified service centers donated their labor, as well as the necessary replacement parts, to refurbish the automobiles, said Barry Leabo, spokesman for Jobbers Automotive Warehouse and vice president for sales and marketing and parts distributor for the certified service centers in Wichita.

"Our members decided to help by doing what they do best -- maintaining, servicing, and repairing automobiles and light trucks," Leabo said. "As these victims prepare to continue their lives, many of them need to find jobs in order to support themselves and their children -- but they need a car to be able to take that next step -- and since we're in the business of keeping safe, reliable, roadworthy cars on the road for our customers, it was a simple decision to offer that help to a group that most people simply ignore."

The recipients, chosen by Harbor House Catholic Charities, were presented their cars at the Bob Brown Expo Hall in the Century II building.
