Midwest motorsports ready to get under way after slow start due to inclement weather

After a number of cancellations early in the season due to rain, racers are now ready to rev up their engines and give the fans a show. Whether you are into drag racing, road races, or dirt-track racing, there is bound to be a race nearby.

  
Here is a list of tracks compiled by Parts & People that highlights some of the featured events and motorsport varieties throughout the Midwest. 

A Late Model takes the turn at Dubuque Speedway in Iowa on the 3/8-mile high-banked clay track. Races are held on Sunday night. Classes include Late Model, Modified, Pro Stock, Limited Stock, Hobby Stock, B-Modified, and four-cylinder Farley Flyers.
IOWA


Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway, Dubuque, 563-744-3620. www.simmonspromotioninc.com.
The 3/8-mile high-banked clay track hosts Sunday night races in Late Model, Pro Stock, Modified, Limited Stock, Hobby Stock, B-Modified, and four-cylinder Farley Flyers. Races begin at 7 p.m.


Farley Speedway, Farley, 563-744-3620, www.simmonspromotioninc.com.
The half-mile high-banked clay track hosts Friday night races for Late Model, Limited Stock, Stock Car, and four-cylinder Farley Flyers.


Eddyville Raceway Park, Oskaloosa, 641-969-5596, www.eddyvilleraceway.com.
The eighth-mile IHRA-member dragstrip hosts the Advance Transmission Super Pro, Pro (modified), Sportsman (Super ET), Junior Dragster, RJ Performance Pro Bike, and RJ Performance Street bike. Nitro Funny Car driver/Owner Tim Wilkerson will be at Eddyville Raceway Park for the Musco Lightning Night of Fire event on Saturday, July 5. This year, Wilkerson scored a victory on the NHRA circuit at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The win moved Wilkerson into the second spot in Powerade Points.

 

Knoxville Raceway, Knoxville, 641-842-5431, www.knoxvilleraceway.com.   
This half-mile oval dirt track features a full schedule of Midget and Sprint Car races through September. Featured events are Racers wait for the green light at Friday Night Street Racing event on May 9 at Mid-America Motorplex in Pacific Junction, Iowa. The event runs every Friday night throughout the season.the 18th annual Arnold Motor Supply Knoxville 360 National running July 31-Aug 2 and the 48th annual Super Clean Knoxville Nationals on Aug. 6-9.

 

Mid-America Motorplex, Pacific Junction, 712-622-8122, www.midamericamotorplex.com.
The facility sits 20 minutes south of Omaha and features two road courses and a dragstrip. The road courses host a number of SCCA races and private events, and the Rolling Thunder eighth-mile dragstrip offers NHRA ET/Bracket racing classes in addition to Street Legal and Junior Dragster racing.


 
KANSAS

 

Heartland Park, Topeka, 800-437-2237, www.hpt.com.
Heartland Park offers a quarter-mile dragstrip, 2.5-mile road course and 3/8-mile dirt oval track. This year's feature events are the SCCA Runoffs on Aug. 30-31 and the Thunder of the big twins from American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) and Grand National Championship (GNC) Flat Track Racing Series. The series returns to Heartland Park on July 4 for the first time since 2000.  Heartland Park also annually hosts National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) POWERade Drag Racing Series, the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) National Championship Runoffs, World of Outlaws, Championship Cup Series (CCS), American Sportbike Racing Association (ASRA), and many other pro and amateur dirt, drag- and road-racing events throughout the season.

 

Lakeside Speedway, Kansas City, 913-299-2040, www.lakesidespeedway.net.
This dirt track is host to Friday night racing in the classes of Modifieds, Grand Nationals, and Factory Stocks. Special events this year include the Fourth of July Sprint Car Spectacular and the Capital Federal Late-Model Showdown and Modified Shootout on Sept. 26-27.

 

Kansas Speedway, Kansas City, 866-460-race, www.kansasspeedway.com.  
The Kansas Lottery 300, part of the NASCAR Nationwide Series and the Kansas 400, which is part of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, are the feature events at the Kansas Speedway this summer. The races will take place on Sept. 27 and 28 respectively. 

 


MISSOURI

 

Mo-Kan Dragway, Asbury, 417-642-5599, www.mokandragway.com.
This quarter-mile strip hosts Friday night "Fun Drags" and Saturday night NAPA-bracket races through the season. On Aug. 30-31, Mo-Kan Dragway will also play host to the 43rd annual NAPA Labor Day Weekend Classic.

 

Kansas City International Raceway, Kansas City, 816-358-6700, www.kcir.net
This dragstrip hosts the VAMP Heads Up Race Series and the Cable-Dahmer/Sunoco ET series through the race season. This seasons feature events include the sixth annual Lightening Fest on Aug. 15-17 and the Show-me Muscle Car Reunion on Oct. 3-5.


 
Lake Ozark Speedway, Lake Ozark, 573-392-9977, www.lakeozarkspeedway.com.
This oval dirt track will run its regular Saturday program of Modifieds, Fastrak Late Models, Street Stock, and Hobby Stocks throughout the season. In addition, the speedway will host the UMP Late Model Summer Nationals on June 25 and the ASCS "360" Sprints, an ASCS National Event, on July 5.

 

I-70 Speedway, Odessa, 816-230-0080, www.i70speedway.net.

This half-mile, high-banked asphalt oval hosts weekly racing of Modifieds, Super Trucks, Super Stocks, Dash Cars, and Enduros. The facility also has a 3/8-mile dirt track with classes in Hobby Stock, Sport Compact, Stock, and A-Modified. 

 
 
Ozark International Raceway, Springfield, 417-738-2222, www.ozarkdragstrip.com.  
This quarter-mile track will host midnight drags and bracket-point races throughout the season along with the Street Wars competition on June 28.

 

Lucas Oil Speedway, Wheatland, 417-282-5984, www.lucasoilspeedway.com.
Weekly classes at the 3/8-mile, semi-banked clay oval include A-Modified, Limited Late Models, Factory Stocks, Figure-8s and Hobby Stocks. Special events include the O'Reilly Auto Parts Multi-Series Late Model Challenge on June 20-21 and the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series on Sept. 14.

 

NEBRASKA

 

Nebraska Raceway Park, Greenwood, 402-944-2233, www.neracewaypark.com.  
This complex has a 4/5-mile semi-banked dirt oval that features Friday night NASCAR Late Models, Home Pride Pro Modifieds, Stock Cars, IMCA SportMods, and Ed's Hornets. The Raceway also has Saturday night motorcycle races through the season in the Soaring Eagle Motorcycle Park, and Go-Kart races on Friday night on the Little Sunset Speedway eighth-mile track.

 

Junction Motor Speedway, McCool Junction, 402-773-5538, www.junctionmotorspeedway.com.  
This 3/8-mile dirt track sits five miles south of I-80 on U.S. 81 and features Saturday night racing in NAPA Late Models, Friesen Chevrolet Modifieds, Stocks, Hobby Stocks, Two-Person Cruisers, and Four-Cylinder.

 

SOUTH DAKOTA

 

Park Jefferson Speedway, Jefferson, 605-966-5517, www.parkjeffersonspeedway.com.
Located just north of Sioux City, this NASCAR half-mile oval includes racing by IMCA Modified, IMCA Stocks, B-Modified, and IMCA Hobby Stock, Two-Person Cruisers, and Hornet classes. This year's featured event is the USTMS NASCAR Stars race, and Kenny Wallace and Ken Schrader will be on hand.
