Round 6 of 2008 CORR Series was held Sunday before a near sell-out crowd at the 9,000-seat dirt raceway located adjacent to the famed Los Angeles County Fairplex dragstrip in Pomona, Calif., that includes a .74-mile purpose-built dirt race course.

     After losing power with a fuel pressure problem during Pro Buggy qualifying, MacCachren started 28th in the 29-car 15-Lap main event and skillfully worked his way all the way up to a second place finish in the No. 921 BFG Tires Honda-powered AlumiCraft open-wheel desert race car, 6.972 seconds behind race winner Greg George. He now has four wins and two seconds in this class so far this season.

     Things looked a lot better for MacCachren when he qualified first in Pro-2 in the No. 21 Rockstar Ford F-150 but things went south in a hurry in the 18 Lap main event when he was hit but another vehicle causing his right front tire to go flat on Lap 4 while running sixth. He had started eighth with the inverted start and got lapped when he had the flat changed by his crew in the hot pits.  He re-entered the race one-lap down and salvaged an 18th place finish position out of 26 trucks that started the race.

     "Momma said there'd be days like this, but I never expected it to happen to nearly the entire team," said MacCachren, who has 67 career CORR race wins after his Pro Buggy win in Saturday's Round 5. "As a team, we had some weird problems and situations today, but we're a new team and it's good to get it out of our system now so we can re-group, re-focus and get ready for 10 more rounds in this year's CORR Series.  The test of a great team is learning from mistakes and tough breaks like you get in racing to become get better, stronger and an even closer team.  Menzies Motorsports will bounce back from today and continue to be a major factor in every class we race the rest of the year."

     While Krahenbuhl earned third place in the 13-Lap main event for the third time in six races in Single Buggy this season in the No. 312 KMC Fraley-VW, Bryan Freeman saw his five-race win streak halted abruptly and rather uniquely.

     Freeman qualified first for the sixth straight race in the No. 307 Nevada Off-Road Buggy Fraley-VW but started 10th on the inverted start. Hit by a competitor in Turn 1 of Lap 1, he slipped to 14th and worked his way back to third at Lap 8's competition yellow.

     The first restart was called because Freeman was ruled to have jumped the start as he passed the two leaders in Turn 1. On the next re-start, on Lap 11, Freeman was ruled to have jumped the start again and he after took the lead again on Turn 1, he was pulled into the hot pits for a short time penalty on the last turn of the final lap. 

     A desert-racing veteran who continues to enjoy a stellar rookie season of short-course racing, Freeman did manage a seventh-place finish out of 22 starters.

     The Menzies Motorsports lineup also includes fellow Southern Nevada desert racers Bryce Menzies, Bruce Fraley and Larry Job. Menzies and Fraley both race in the Pro Lite division and Job in Pro Buggy.

     Job qualified sixth in Pro Buggy, but lost engine power on the first lap, eventually going to the hot pits twice and struggled the rest of the way, completing just 11 of 15 laps for a final finish position of 19th in the No. 907 Mastercraft AlumiCraft-Honda.

      Menzies, at 20 the youngest driver on the team and son of team owner Steve Menzies, qualified sixth, ran in the fifth position through Lap 6 in the 15-Lap main, but had to retire from the race because of transmission failure in the No. 7 Fox Shox Ford Ranger

     Fraley, also a noted race car builder, qualified 12th in the No. 12 MSD Ford Ranger, but in the main event he rolled his truck on Lap 8 in Turn 5 just before start/finish. Running eighth at the time, quick assistance from course workers to right the vehicle kept him on the lead lap and he finished 13th out of 28 starters.

     Menzies Motorsports is based out of a state-of-the-art 31,000-square foot race shop in southwest Las Vegas and the new team also has a test facility with a one-mile track south of Las Vegas which is laid out nearly identically to course at the Las Vegas International Off-Road Raceway. Owned by Las Vegas contractor Steve Menzies, the team is making a major impact despite being only in its second season overall and first year with more than two drivers.

     Kroyer Racing Engines of Las Vegas builds the Ford truck engines and the Honda Pro Buggy motors for Menzies Motorsports while Southern California's FAT Performance builds the VW Single Buggy engines.

     This weekend's races will air both on the Speed Channel and NBC TV on a delayed basis.  A two-hour show from Round 7 is scheduled to air at 2 p.m. (PT) on Saturday, June 22 on Speed TV and a one and one-half hour show from Round 8 is set to air at noon (PT) on Sunday, July 6 on NBC.

     Next up for Menzies Motorsports will be Rounds 7 and 8 of the 2008 CORR Series, to be held July 26-27 at the Chula Vista International Raceway near San Diego.
