Tesla Roadster, the all-electric car, has opened its first store near the University of California, Los Angeles, with the next to open within 60 days near Tesla's headquarters in the Silicon Valley city of San Carlos, where the car was developed. More stores are planned for Chicago, New York, and other cities early next year. The sticker price is listed at $109,000 to $124,000.
Eric Sevim, co-owner of A+ Japanese Auto Repair in San Carlos with his brother Adam, is trying to become the first on the peninsula to convert Toyota Priuses and possibly other hybrids to plug-ins that could be charged overnight through a standard outlet and get even better gas mileage. The shop is looking at installing the A123 Systems, which has been crashed tested and certified, or Energy CS, which is a design that Pacific Gas & Electric is testing. The conversion would boost the Prius' gas mileage from 40-45 miles per gallon to 70-90 mpg. The price tag of $10,400 for the plug-in system is not for people who simply want to save money at the pump but for those who want to go green.

Moss Bros. Ford in Colton is closing its doors. Owner and CEO Glenn Moss said he is selling his franchise rights to Ford and his customer data base to nearby Fairview Ford in San Bernardino. "It's because of the Ford restructuring," Moss said. "Ford is buying back the franchise rights on dealerships everywhere."
