Southfield, Mich.--BASF has announced that the Speed Channel show, Dream Car Garage, will film BASF receiving its newly restored 1957 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing at Meadow Brook Concours d'Elegance Aug. 3 in Rochester, Mich. This handoff presentation will be aired during an early 2009 episode of the popular television program.
Over the years, BASF has amassed a collection of classic and exotic cars from many of its strategic customers. BASF bought the 1957 Gullwing a decade ago because the 300SL is a timeless classic, similar to Glasurit's line of automotive refinish products themselves.
Since February, a weekly audience has tuned into Dream Car Garage for a behind-the-scenes look at the restoration of BASF's 1957 300SL, one of only 76 built in the Gullwing's last year of production. The 300SL Gullwing, a technological and styling marvel, signaled the rebirth of Mercedes in the post war world.
Restored from its revolutionary tube frame up and finished with BASF's Glasurit 90 Line of waterborne automotive finish products, the project was conducted by Dream Car Garage's sister company, Legendary Motorcar.

Peter Klutt, host of Dream Car Garage, was at Meadow Brook on Aug. 3 to participate in the formal handoff of the Gullwing to Jay Baker, Group Vice President of BASF's Coatings Division in North America. Klutt will also be conducting a restoration seminar in the BASF-sponsored media tent.
"What a great venue for our official return of the Gullwing to BASF," said Klutt. "We are thrilled to have been involved in this restoration project and are looking forward to sharing it with all of the car enthusiasts coming to this exciting event."
