Kansas City, Mo.--The launch of the "Engines Repowered Here" posters by the Engine Repower Council (ERC) is what ERC Chairman Steve Rich loosely calls the "Got Milk" campaign for rebuilders.
Rich said the ERC hopes to inform consumers about the customer benefits of reman and rebuilt engines. "The ERC is trying to educate the vehicle owners that repowering/rebuilding is a great option when you have major engine trouble, and it is certainly a greener option," he said.
Rich, president of Sterling Bearing in Kansas City, said he has been on the ERC board for three years and will be the chairman again next year.
"I got involved with the ERC because it is the right thing to do," he said. "It is a good industry organization that is trying to get the word out to the public to repower their engines."
The ERC committee is made up of rebuilding industry reps, including OE manufacturers, production engine remanufacturers, custom engine rebuilders, engine installers, a warehouse distributor, trade media, and a sales agency owner.

A total of 4,000 posters will be distributed through outside sales reps for Jasper and Engine Part Group members, along with some manufacturers, Rich said.
Engine Repower Council launches consumer poster campaign
Bethesda, Md.--The Engine Repower Council (ERC) is launching a consumer awareness poster campaign. The new poster, titled "Engines Repowered Here," is designed to stimulate consumer interest about the many benefits provided by a remanufactured or rebuilt engine.
The ERC poster provides a visual resource a shop can use to promote the quality, reliability, and savings provided to their customers with a remanufactured or rebuilt engine.
"If a consumer's car or truck is experiencing major engine damage but is otherwise in relatively good shape, repowering it with a remanufactured or rebuilt engine is not only an environmentally sound decision, but it will also help stretch their dollars at the gas pump," said ERC Chairman Steve Rich.
With repowering, a consumer's engine or an identical one from another vehicle is remanufactured or rebuilt. Also, unlike installing a used or junkyard engine with an unknown performance and maintenance history, critically important internal parts are replaced with new ones that meet or exceed original equipment performance standards.
Not infrequently, remanufactured or rebuilt engines solve original-engine operating problems with redesigned and/or higher-quality replacement parts. They are dependable, reliable, and backed by quality warranty programs that also usually cover installation expenses.
"By reducing purchases of new vehicles and repowering the ones we already own, we can significantly reduce the impact on the environment," Rich said. "Engine repowering saves a tremendous amount of energy used in the processing of discarded engines and vehicles. It also saves an incredible amount of raw materials required in the manufacturing of new engines.
"The new ERC posters are designed to lead consumers to ask questions that will allow shop owners the opportunity to educate their customers about the many benefits of repowering their vehicle with a remanufactured or rebuilt engine," he said.
