Lucas Shaves One Point Off Top Fuel Points Deficit
RSS Feed

It wasn't the day Morgan Lucas had hoped for on Sunday in the 21st annual Fram/Autolite Nationals at Infineon Raceway.  Trailing by only 10 Top Fuel points out of a Top 10 position in the standings entering the event, after all was said and done, he only managed to shave one point off the difference after his first round loss to 'Hot Rod' Fuller.  Now with three races remaining before the Countdown starts in Charlotte, Lucas heads into the Lucas Oil Nationals at Brainerd, Minn. trailing tenth place runner, Doug Kalitta by a mere nine points.

His first round race against Fuller was over around 300 feet when Lucas spun the tires allowing his opponent a clear path to the finish line.  Lucas jumped off the starting line with a .027 reaction time to Fuller's much slower .092 and held the lead briefly until his lost traction.  In the race, Lucas posted a time of 5.988 seconds, 131.73 mph to Fuller's winning time of 3.868 seconds, 313.07 mph.

Lucas qualified in the No. 10 position on the Top Fuel roster with an elapsed time of 3.868 seconds, 307.93 mph.
After the completion of 15 NHRA National events, Lucas is presently in the No. 11 spot with 620 points.
Up next for the Lucas Oil Stabilizer team will be the 28th annual Lucas Oil Nationals on August 8 – 10 at the Brainerd International Raceway.
