Big Rigs ROCK the Park: Schwanstrom wins Semi Main

The fourth annual August Revolution got underway Saturday night with a fired up crowd and excited drivers. Big Rig's made there first appearance at Montana Raceway Park after five years of trying to come and race on our track and the crowd went wild for Big Rig racing. One lucky fan by the name of Lonnie Hedman of Billings walked away with a new Harley sponsored by Miller Light and Town Pump.


 

   Rolling Thunder Big Rigs had the fast time of a 17.624 awarded to the 17 of Jeff Schwanstrom. Schwanstrom also set the track record for Rolling Thunder Big Rigs since it was there first appearance at the track. Schwanstrom swept the A dash, heat and main event. The B heat went to the 88 of John Nelson. The Big Rig main event was filled with excitement as smoke covered the track from the exhausts of the trucks. The 17 of Schwanstrom came from last place to first place in less then ten laps to win the Big Rig main event. After winning the main event Schwanstrom said he was speechless on his win. "I was on my game tonight, the track conditions definitely helped. The stars were aligned tonight," Schwanstrom said he also said that Raceway Park is his favorite track and he would love to come back.


    

   Canadian Super Trucks had a fast time of the night with a 14.237 achieved by the 79 truck of Gary Miller. The B dash was won by the 77 of Doug Fischer and the A dash was won by the 74 of Wade Lee. The first heat went to the 24 of Murray Westling. During the first heat the 36 of Jason Weinberger hit into the 77 of Doug Fischer. The second heat was won by the 35 of Keray Myer. Heat number three an inverted heat was won by the 84 of Sheldon Bain and the fourth and last heat which was also inverted was won by the 79 of Gary Miller who received the fast time of the night. The 75 lap main event was an exciting race for the Canadian Super Trucks and for fans. With 53 laps to go the 35 of Keray Myer spun himself around in turn four. Eight laps later 45 to go until the end of the race the 24 of Murray Westling turned himself around in turn two and the 36 of Jason Weinberger also turned himself around. With 32 to go the 57 of Stan Skinner and the 36 of Weinberger went around in the backstretch. The 48 of Dan Saunders won the main event. "After fifteen years here I have won two to three times but I hadn't won for four years. I was beginning to think that the track and I were having problems; it is really nice to have won. I love this track, we always get treated like gold here, the fans are great and the sponsors are great. Miller light has done a lot for this track and its great because without sponsors we wouldn't be able to do this," Saunders said.


    

   Scott Dalla in the 22 Roadster had the fast time of the night with a 14.174. 07 car of John Logan won the Trophy dash Saturday night, in the trophy dash with no laps complete all four thunder roadsters spun out in turn four. The Thunder Roadster heat was won by local driver Scott Dalla in the 22. In the heat race with five to go the 07 of John Logan and the 09 of Larry Gerek aka Larry G hit hard into each other. The 35 lap main event for Thunder Roadsters was also won by the 22 of Scott Dalla. The 09 car of Larry Gerek received the black flag warning and then hit hard into the 2 car of Scott Lee bringing out a yellow and a black flag ending Gerek's night.


    

   Next week Raceway Park will have some familiar cars racing. Stevens Steel West Compact 50 US Army Limited Sportsman, Flathead Beacon Compacts, Hornets, Double Diamond Paving Flathead Legends, Double Diamond Paving Bandoleros will all be racing Saturday Night.
