GM clinic focuses on emission system diagnostics
RSS Feed

Northridge, Calif. -- More than 20 technicians attended a training clinic on emission system diagnostics hosted by Rydell Chevrolet and taught by General Motors Powertrain Instructor Rick Carroll.

Carroll said the class covers the basics to provide a foundation for most technicians but also includes advanced techniques for more experienced technicians.

The class covers the government standards involved, defined the vehicle emissions produced, identified the emission control systems and the emissions they effect, and identified how OBD-II monitors emission control systems, Carroll said.

Technicians learned common diagnostics and testing of emission control systems and how to explain I/M programs, including OBD-II emissions tests.

Trainer Rick Carroll describes emission system diagnostic techniques during a recent class at Rydell Chevrolet in Northridge.
The class is one of nine currently being offered by GM, Carroll said.  Others include ignition systems, fuel systems, an OBD clinic, engine performance and drivability, transmission diagnostics, Duramax diesel clinic, hybrid technology, and a hydrogen fuel cell course, he said.

Rydell Chevrolet Northridge Parts Manager Dan Colwell said the dealer tries to offer several powertrain clinics a year.  "It keeps our customers informed on the latest stuff that GM has to offer," he said.  "They are really good classes."
