Upper body/safety cage measuring technology unveiled
RSS Feed

Grand Island, Neb.--Chief Automotive has introduced a digital "tape measure" that can quickly and easily record and wirelessly transmit measurements directly to a Velocity or Portal measuring system.

Named Intelli-Tape, this durable and lightweight device measures point to point and is ideal for upper body openings such as doors, hatches, windows, strut-tower locations, and engine compartment dimensions.

With a simple click of a button, the data can be wirelessly communicated to any Chief computerized measuring system, which have been reprogrammed to accept Intelli-Tape transmissions so that additional components are not required.  Shops can simply plug Intelli-Tape in and start measuring.

Intelli-Tape can be used as a handheld device for smaller measurements or in confined spaces, or can be attached to the optional tram for longer measurements.  Measurements are accurate to within 1/2 millimeter, and Intelli-Tape can measure distances up to 2 meters in length in either standard or metric formats.

Chief Automotive has introduced a digital measuring technology that can record and wirelessly transmit measurements directly to a Velocity or Portal measuring system.
"The Intelli-Tape gives Chief a low-cost option in its extensive vehicle measuring line-up," said Chief Automotive president Randy Gard, "and it's something the industry has needed for a long time.

"In fact, in field tests the technicians loved this thing," Gard said.  "It's a tool they can pick up and use immediately without a lot of training, and they can accurately measure any body opening or other two-dimensional measurement they need in just seconds.  Plus the wireless feature means they don't have to continually stop to record their data."
