Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Junior Engine Challenge began in April with the first official event held at Gateway Motorsport Park. Each team consists of two individuals; one team member must be 5-18 years of age and must completely disassemble/reassemble a complete single cylinder OHV engine, using only basic hand tools. Some of the contest’s goals are to help individuals develop communication skills, self-esteem, develop problem solving skills, and gain an understanding of an internal combustion engine. The next challenge will be at the Protect the Harvest Midwest Junior Super Series at Byron Dragway, May 5-7, in Byron. Registration and tickets are available for the 2017 Chevrolet Performance CAR CRAFT Summer Nationals, July 21-23, at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green. It will be the first year the annual automotive event will be held in Bowling Green. It presents a gathering of street machines and muscle cars that showcases more than 2,500 performance cars and attracts upward of 25,000 enthusiasts from across the country over the course of three days. Collision technician Derek Fetter, of F & S Collision and Customs in Troy, is a grand-prize winner in the 2017 “Search for a Champion” contest from Federal-Mogul Motorparts’ Champion brand. Fetter entered the “Off the Track” category based on his interest in vehicle maintenance and performance upgrades. He won a $5,000 prize. “I’ve known about Champion all my life, and my grandfather even had a Champion sign in his garage when I was growing up,” he said. “I am looking forward to representing the brand and using even more of its maintenance products in our shop and on my own vehicles.”
Plaza Tire Service Inc. opened a Moberly location, it’s 60th store and eighth in mid-Missouri. The 5,400-square-foot facility features seven bays and took six months to complete.
The St. Louis I-CAR Committee is hosting two career fairs this year. The first will be May 5, at Enterprise Holdings’ IT Technical Center in St. Charles, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the second will be at Gateway Motorsports Park, Sept. 29, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to coincide with Friday night qualifying of the NHRA national event. The committee is seeking career fair-sponsorships from companies in the automotive repair industry.
