Mazda Motorsports Pirelli World Challenge Mid-Season Update
IRVINE, Calif. (August 11, 2015) – The Pirelli World Challenge (PWC) Touring Car season is about to kick off the second half of a very competitive year and Mazda racers are in the thick of the battle. Independent Mazda racers are competing in the Touring Car (TC), Touring Car A (TCA), and Touring Car B (TCB) classes. The season has reached the halfway point with nine of 18 races now complete. This weekend at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, the second half will begin.
“Mazda has a great history in World Challenge Touring Car Competition and we’re grateful to have so many wonderful independent teams carrying the Mazda flag this season,” noted John Doonan, Director of Motorsports for Mazda North American Operations. “Manufacturers championships only happen when you have multiple teams running at the front, and we are well poised as we aim for the finale at our home track of Mazda Raceway.”
In the TCA class, Mazda is represented by a pair of Tech Sport Racing Mazda RX-8’s operated by Kevin Anderson. The Tech Sport team has scored one win, three poles, and has led five races and currently sits fourth in team points.
In TCB, aka “B-Spec”, James Wilson, racing the Black Armor Helmets Mazda2, is 12th in points despite only competing in six of the first nine races.
The season will conclude at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on September 11-13 sharing the weekend with the Mazda Road to Indy finales.
