Five of the Top 10 drivers in the 2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series final points standings drove cars were equipped with Jasper products, including 2017 Series Champion, Martin Truex, Jr. with Furniture Row Racing. “Overall, our 2017 went real well,” said Terry Dekemper, Jasper Driveline Division manager. “It’s truly a testament to the strength and durability of our driveline products. Centric Parts received the Auto Care Association’s Import Vehicle Community Award for Best Print or Electronic Catalog of a Product Line for Import Cars or Trucks for their 2018 Centric Parts Brake Systems Catalog. The award was presented during the recent 2017 AAPEX Show in Las Vegas. The new catalog was selected for its exceptional design, comprehensive parts coverage, up-to-the-minute product information and ease of use. It is the fifth time that Centric Parts has received the award for the best catalog since 2005.
The Ingersoll Rand Foundation has awarded 50 high schools in eight cities a total of $500,000 in grant monies since 2015 to fund improvements to their automotive technology programs. The Ingersoll Rand Real Tools for Schools program awards high schools with $10,000 grants to enhance education for students in automotive technology programs with updated equipment, supplies, instructor training and curricula. “These students are the future of the automotive industry. Ingersoll Rand supports technical education because it prepares students for career success and enhances job readiness,” said Austin Lieb, vice president of product management at Ingersoll Rand Power Tools.

MAHLE Aftermarket was the recipient of two Automotive Communications Awards from the Women in Auto Care at AAPEX in Las Vegas. The awards were given in two business-to-business award categories: “Special Promotion and/or Promotional Event,” for the MAHLE “Drive With the Original” promotion, and “Best 360 Degree Marketing Campaign,” for the Introduction of the MAHLE Original Gaskets Brand.
The University of the Aftermarket Foundation board of trustees has elected Robert Egan as chairman of the foundation. He has served as chairman of the Auto Care Association, Automotive Sales Council and Heavy Duty Manufacturers Association and Business Forum. In 2008, Egan was recognized as “Leader of the Year” by the Automotive Warehouse Distributors Association (AWDA). Egan replaces outgoing Chairman Rusty Bishop, AAP, CEO of Federated Auto Parts.
Marx Group was awarded two Automotive Communications Awards at the 2017 AAPEX in Las Vegas. The first award, in the business-to-business category was for “Best Website - Analytics” showing success of new website, for its own website, marxgrp.com. The second award, in the business-to-cosumer category, was for “Best Print or Digital Display Ad Campaign,” for the “Turn On, Turn Heads” campaign for Philips Automotive Lighting, for its client, Lumileds.
Auto Value and Bumper to Bumper have announced that Wix Filters was selected as the 2017 Channel Partner of the Year by shareholders of the Aftermarket Auto Parts Alliance. The announcement was made during the recent Alliance annual Winter Meeting at National Doral in Miami. The 2017 award is based on Wix Filter’s training, marketing, fill rate, parts coverage, strong sales support and dedication to the professional technician, and overall support to the shareholders.
SEMA is now accepting applications for the 2018 SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund for students preparing for careers in the auto or auto parts industries at www.sema.org/scholarships. New this year, high school and part-time students can apply for a scholarship. The change is part of an effort by SEMA’s Scholarship committee to start students down the automotive path and support their efforts at an earlier stage. The program offers financial assistance of up to $5,000. Deadline for the program is March 1. Scholarships are available in a variety of categories, such as accounting, sales and marketing, and engineering. Dozens of awards ranging from $2,000 to $3,000 will be given out, with a $5,000 award going to the top student.
Cardone Industries is extending the deadline to enter its tech video competition to Jan. 31. Car enthusiasts now have an extra two months to share an original video featuring the installation or service of an under-the-hood or under-the-car automotive part to be entered for a chance to win $5,000. Al Gaspar, industry icon and former president and CEO of the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA), died in November.
Prior to becoming president and CEO of AAIA (now the Auto Care Association) in 2000, he was president of the Automotive Parts and Accessories Association (APAA) for five years following an unprecedented three terms as chairman of the Board of APAA. Previous aftermarket positions included executive vice president of McKay Chemical Company; vice president, consumer sales for Wynn Oil Company; and vice president, sales and marketing worldwide operations, Bardahl Manufacturing Corporation.
He spearheaded an ambitious fundraising campaign to build the $5 million state-of-the-art Aftermarket Education Center building at Northwood University in Midland, Mich.; and he lead several member companies in raising funds to research the viability of consumer education as a solution to capture a share of the $70 billion in unperformed vehicle maintenance, which validated the need for and creation of the Be Car Care Aware consumer education campaign.
Gaspar was a recipient of numerous recognitions, including the Distinguished Service Citation from the Automotive Hall of Fame and AAIA Aftermarket Executive of the Year.
