Icahn Automotive Group announced it has completed the acquisition of automotive service company Precision Auto Care, Inc., parent company of Precision Tune Auto Care. “We are extremely pleased to welcome to the Icahn Automotive family more than 320 corporate-owned and franchised Precision Tune service locations in the U.S. and internationally, along with Precision Auto Care CEO Robert Falconi and his leadership team,” said Daniel A. Ninivaggi, CEO of Icahn Automotive Group LLC.
The Car Care Council recently received three prestigious awards from the North American Precis Syndicate (NAPS) for outstanding print media coverage of its consumer feature articles, nearly three times the average visibility. “These awards are a testament to the value and importance of consumer education content and the added benefits our industry provides to motorists, keeping their vehicles safe, dependable and on the road longer,” said Rich White, executive director, Car Care Council.
BASF is accepting submissions for the third annual Glasurit Best Paint Award. Photos submitted must be of a Glasurit-painted vehicle, and the vehicle must meet the following criteria: be on display at the upcoming 2017 SEMA show; use Glasurit 22, 55 or 90 Line products, including primer, basecoat and clearcoat. BASF and Glasurit will honor the winner at SEMA 2017 with Chip Foose presenting. Submissions will be accepted through Oct. 27, at refinish.basf.us/bestpaintaward.
U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke intends to create a Recreation Advisory Committee to help expand public-private partnerships on U.S. public lands. The announcement was made during a July meeting at the Department of the Interior with Outdoor Recreation Industry Roundtable (ORIR) representatives, federal lawmakers and high-ranking officials. The ORIR is comprised of 17 industry associations, including SEMA, representing off-roading and other sports. Combined, the outdoor recreation industry generates $887 billion per year in economic activity and provides an estimated 7.6 million direct jobs.
The SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund awarded $160,000 to 60 individuals this year, including 53 SEMA scholarships to current students and seven loan forgiveness awards to employees of SEMA-member companies. More than $2.2 million has been awarded to more than 1,300 deserving students since the program’s establishment in 1984. The online application — sema.org/scholarships — for next year’s awards will be open Nov. 1 through March 1, 2018.
Wade Kawasaki was sworn in as chairman of SEMA Board of Directors at the recent July SEMA Installation and Gala in Pomona, Calif. Kawasaki, president and COO of the Coker Group, has been a SEMA member for more than 35 years, and he has previously been on the board of directors for three consecutive terms. He has spent the last two years as the chariman-elect, after winning the election in 2015. His two-year term as chairman of the SEMA Board of Directors will continue through July 2019.
Hunter Engineering announced its newly redesigned Hunter.com has been awarded a Platinum dotCOMM award in the Business to Business Website category. The Platinum dotCOMM Award is the highest level given to an organization and represents excellence in web communication, creativity, content and design. The new Hunter.com places greater emphasis on Hunter’s local teams and products with increased product information.
D&V Electronics announced it has accepted an offer to be acquired by Motorcar Parts of America and will operate as an independent testing company. Motorcar Parts of America’s investment will provide D&V the opportunity to develop new investigative tools for use by technology developers and manufacturers of vehicle electrification products. “We look forward to providing our clients with additional insight into the rapidly changing field of vehicle electrification,” said Kalina Loukanov, executive director of D&V Electronics.
Alberto Bombassei, Brembo chairman and president, was recently inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame at Detroit’s Cobo Center, along with Ed Welburn and Jack Roush. “Brembo has won over 300 world championships. For Brembo, competition is an essential laboratory for transferring our technology over time to our customers for their road applications. “Racing to the Road” is one of my favorite mottos, and that’s what's happening every day at Brembo.
