Jamie Smith, a single mother of two, and Alana Yates, a single mother of three, received vehicles in December through Zara’s Collision Center’s Benevolence Program. The vehicles were unwrapped during a luncheon ceremony of 150 attendees at Zara’s Collision Center, in Springfield, Ill. To be eligible for a vehicle as part of the Benevolence Program, a person must be associated with a not-for-profit agency or church, have a valid driver’s license, a good driving record, and a verified need for a vehicle. Zara’s vendors, employees, friends, family, and insurance agents also actively support the program. Nearly 50 donors contributed to the program.
Jasper Endows Today & Tomorrow (JETT) hosted a “Will Read & Sing for Food” event, Dec. 2, at Jasper Engines & Transmission’s Power Drive facility in Jasper, Ind. JETT presented eight 2017 grants totaling $28,830.00 to local and national non-profit organizations. JETT also raised another $18,000 to go toward the organization’s 2018 grants. JETT is a giving circle for Jasper Engines & Transmission Associates and their families that focuses on pooling resources to have a greater combined impact on its communities. More than 500 volunteer hours were also donated by JETT members this year.
Southern Illinois University - Carbondale (SIU) Career Services will host the Spring 2018 Job and Internship Fair, Tuesday, Feb. 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Center Ballrooms. The Job Fair at SIU typically brings in between 600 and 1,000 students seeking internship and full-time opportunities.
