TIA vice president discusses tire registration ramifications and outlines membership benefits

Pico Rivera, Calif.—Tire Industry Association (TIA) President Carol Delaballma of T.P. Tire Service was master of ceremonies for the fourth annual New Year Luncheon presented by the California Tire Dealers Association (CTDA), co-gold sponsors Yokohama Tire and Federated Insurance, and silver sponsor Pirelli, with 1-800EveryRim – OEM Wheels serving as luncheon host.

The event was held on Jan. 21 at the historic Del Rae Restaurant in Pico Rivera and featured keynote speaker, Tom Formanek, vice president of TIA and regional sales manager of Stellar Industries.

 Formanek discussed the benefits of being a TIA member, including providing a voice in Washington D.C. to oppose pending legislation that may hurt the industry, such as mandatory tire registration, plus training programs and consumer education videos. 

“TIA currently represents more than 8,000 member companies and remains the undisputed leader in tire technician training, with more than 100,000 technicians trained and/or certified in automotive, commercial, and farm tire service,” Formanek said.“We also have added the TIA Online University, You Tube videos titled ‘Tire Safety Starts With…’ and numerous technician and consumer education videos covering tire inspection, winter tires, tire replacement, tire pressure monitoring systems, and proper tire repair,” he said.

Then, SEMA Wheel & Tire Council (WTC) Chairman Joe Findeis, of The Ultimate Wheel & Tire Plus Sizing Guide, discussed the WTC Ride Guide as it assists dealers with data on tire sizing related to vehicle performance.

Following Findeis’ remarks, Mike Russell of Federated Insurance, CTDA’s official liability Insurance vendor, spoke on topics of concern to the tire industry and explained special insurance pricing for CTDA members. 

Next, Matt Burrows of Yokohama explained how important California tire dealers are to his company and thanked everyone for opportunity to once again co-sponsor the event.

This year’s event drew more than 77 representatives from CTDA, ITDG, SEMA Wheel & Tire Council, and TIA.
