Northern California tracks back in action with busy racing schedules

Northern Californian racing enthusiasts can get ready for an lineup of racing all over the region. Racers from amateurs to veteran professionals will be competing in NorCal tracks from now through Thanksgiving.  

Here’s a list of every track from Antioch to Ukiah — big and small and everything in between.   

  • Antioch Speedway in Antioch has a varied race calendar every Saturday night through Oct. 13, with the Antioch Speedway Fall Brawl/Sharp Shooter Series for B-Mods. On June 6, the track hosts Jerry Hetrick Memorial Races featuring 360 Winged Sprints. Other events include the Fire Cracker 50 on June 30, Chet Thompson Memorial Race, Sept. 8, and the John Soars Top Dawg Race, Sept. 15. Enjoy a diverse lineup of dirt racing including Sprint Cars, Limited Late Models, Hobby Stocks, A-Mods, B-Mods, Dwarf Cars and hard tops.
  • Calistoga Speedway is home of the 11th annual Louie Vermell Classic, Sept. 1-2. The half-mile dirt track has been hosting top racing events since 1937 with USAC/CRA Sprint Cars and Midgets, including KWS/NARC Winged Sprints, June 23, Wine Country Showdown , Sept. 14-15.
  • Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford features SAC Sprints, Sport Mods, Mod-Lites, CRA 410s, IMCA Stocks, Late Model Mods, Super Stock, Hobby Stock, and King of Kings Winged 360s/A-Mods/Sport Mods/Stock. Races take place on a full-size clay oval Kart track and a redesigned MX track all the way through Saturday, Oct. 13, with the 33rd Annual Cotton Classic. On Oct. 5-6, the track hosts the RacerSaver West Coast Nationals.
  • Lakeport Speedway in Lakeport and Ukiah Speedway in Ukiah unite their two paved ovals together to create a pair of 10-mile dirt tracks: Ukiah Go Karts and Delbert’s Memorial Raceway through Saturday, Oct. 13. On weekends there are Hillside Powersports Ladies Night, June 6, Kelseyville Lumber Knockdown, July 6, and the Lakeport Summer Fair races, Aug. 30-Sept. 2. Modifieds, Midgets, Late Models, Sprint Cars, Drifters, Legends, Taco Bell Bombers, Bandos, Outlaws, Jalopies, Jammers, and Monster Trucks share the pavement while Outlaw Karts and Speedway Motorcycles hit the dirt.
  • LoanMart Madera Speedway in Madera has been in existence for 47 years and is touted as the fastest 1/3-mile track in the West, with a complete program of USAC Midgets, Big Deal Doggies, Super Modifieds, and Winged Sprints including the HPD Midgets Nationals and King of the Wing National Sprint Car series. Other events include the Summertime Horsepower Nationals on June 9, Spears SRL Southwest Tour 125 on Sept. 29, a “Big Fireworks Show,” June 30, and the 47th annual Harvest Classic, Sept. 14-15. The 12th annual PulluPull Pumpkin Smash and Halloween Bash and Blow Up and haunted house, Oct. 20, are popular events.


  • WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, on the Monterey peninsula, is an iconic track with its legendary corkscrew and has been hosting a race schedule since 1957. SCCA/PCA events include Superbike World Championships, June 22-24, the Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix, Sept. 6-9, Superbike Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, Aug. 23-26, and Porsche Rennsport Reunion IV, Sept. 27-30.


  • Ocean Speedway, formerly known as the Watsonville Speedway in Watsonville, is the home to USAC/CRA Sprint Cars, USAC and KWS 410s, 4-Bangers, American Stocks, Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, Sport Mods, Dwarf Cars and more. The schedule planned for the summer and fall includes the 20th annual Mike Cecil Classic, Aug. 4; the eighth annual Keading Classic, July 20-21; the 59th annual Johnny Key Classic, Aug. 25; the eighth annual Pat Pettit Shootout, Sept. 28-29; and Championship Night 2018, Oct. 5.


  • Petaluma Speedway in Petaluma, celebrating 56 years as the Wine Country’s center of speed, hosts a wide range of 360 Winged Sprints, Wingless Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, Super Stocks, Dwarf Cars, Mini Stocks, and 600s Saturday nights. Other notable events include the KWS/NARC Fujitsu Sprint Car Series starting June 9, eighth annual Soares Classic 50-Lap Hunt Series Race, Aug. 25, and the seventh annual Adobe Cup II, Oct. 7, culminating with a Champions Night Award Banquet, Oct. 6 and 13.


  • Placerville Speedway in Placerville has celebrated racing every Saturday night for the past 53 years on its oval 1/4-mile clay track. Special races this season include King of the West-NARC Fujitsu 410 Sprint Car Series and Sprint Car Challenge Tour, June 30, Placerville Short Track Outlaws Showdown, Sept. 12, and Sprint Car Challenge Tour, Sept. 2 and Sept. 22.


  • Keller Auto Raceway at Plaza Park in Visalia is the home of their 28th season with its 1/5-mile clay oval track, featuring winged and non-winged Micro Sprints and Super 600 racing including the Budweiser Outlaw Nationals, June 8 and June 22, King of California Points Series, June 6-7, California Speed Week, June 29, and Super 600 Nationals held on Friday nights and an occasional Saturday. Racing events scheduled through Nov. 17, include Jr. Sprints, Restricted 600, and Non-Wing and Super 600s.


  • Redding Drag Strip in Redding opened in 1948, which makes it the oldest continuously active NHRA drag strip in the country, hosting a regular schedule of Street Legal drags, Summit King of the Track, Jr. Street Drags, and Summit Series bracket racing. Major races include Five360 Import Drags, June 16, Thunder Under the Lights, Aug. 18, and Diesel Drags and Sled Pulls, Sept. 1. A full summer of racing ends with Grudge Racing, Oct. 20.


  • Sacramento Raceway Motorsports Park holds Wednesday night muffled street legal fun drags, bimonthly Friday Night Supercross, Saturday nite stock car racing, and Saturday/Sunday Drag races at the Highlite events, including The 48th Governor’s Cup Championship, Sept. 22.


  • Sonoma Raceway, since 1968, features a 12-turn, 2.52 mile track with a varied slate of events including the Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival, June 1-3, Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, June 22-24, NHRA Division 7 Drag Races, July 20-22, Toyota NHRA Sonoma Nationals, July 27-29, and the Grand Prix of Sonoma, Oct. 6-7.


  • Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico hosts a full slate of USAC and Gold Cup Race of Champions. Events include the World of Outlaws, Sprint Cars, Late Models, Street Stocks, King of the West Sprint Car Series, Dwarfs, Monster Trucks, the David Tartar Classic, June 16, Huge Fireworks/Racing, July 4, and the 26th Annual Fall Nationals, Sept. 5-8.


  • Siskiyou Motor Speedway in Yreka is home to IMCA Mini Stock, Super Stock, Sport Mod, Dwarf Cars, and Modified racing. On Sept. 22, the track is hosting the Rod Restad Memorial Season Finale featuring Mini Stocks, IMCA Sport Mods and IMCA Modifies.


  • Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare features Winged Sprints, World of Outlaws, King of the West 410 Sprint Cars, USAC West Coast 360 Sprint Cars, Western RaceSaver Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, Stock Cars, Cars, Midgets, IMCA Modifieds, and Winged Sprint Cars. On June 2, the track hosts the Chris and Brian Faria Memorial KWS-NARC race and the Rico Abreu Racing 25th Annual Trophy Cup Races, Oct. 19-20.


  • Thunderhill Raceway Park in Willows has been featuring the longest road course in California for the past 23 years. The three-mile circuit can be broken down into several configurations and lengths and is available for racing events, lapping day events, drifting events, go-kart events, driving and racing schools, open tests, teen car control lessons, ride and drive programs, and track days for owners’ groups.
