Eric Hummel, owner of 5 Star Auto Body, opened a new facility in Arnold, Mo., after Christmas and is located at 1535 Big Bill Road. It features 21,000 square feet and has a new Global Finishing ULTRA XD Truck Booth, mixing room and a DUAL CTOF Prep Booth, as well as Graco air and electric reels and a Champion Compressor, provided by ATI. The larger facility replaces the previous shop location.
Midwest Auto Care Alliance (MWACA) has created a new memorial scholarship to honor the late Harvey Chan, which will be awarded at VISION 2019. The Harvey Chan Technical Scholarship was established in 2018 to commemorate the life of Harvey Chan and to continue his legacy. The scholarship will be awarded annually for a recipient to attend technical training at the VISION Hi-Tech Training & Expo. Scholarship recipients will receive a four-day Power Pass training package and ticket to the Awards Dinner/Comedy Night.
APSA of Illinois is offering scholarships in partnership with University of the Aftermarket Foundation. The APSA of Illinois Scholarship Program was created to promote quality and high standards through education within the automotive aftermarket industry. Lucas Wilmore of Southern Illinois University won one of three scholarships from Standard Motor Products. Wilmore will receive a $5,000 scholarship to apply toward the pursuit or continuation of an education in automotive technology and repair at a technical school or college. The three winners were chosen from a pool of more than 900 who entered the competition. The award was part of the Blue Streak “Stronger Than Ever” Automotive Scholarship Competition.
Telle Tire & Auto Centers announced the addition of a Jefferson City location at the former Kwik Kar Lube & Tune storefront off Truman Boulevard. The former Kwik Kar location had limited services available and the new Telle Tire location will be a full-service shop.
A single mother, Jennea Fortune, has received a Chrysler 300 from Zara’s Collision Center as part of its Benevolence Program. Zara’s coordinated the refurbishing of the engine and preparation for road readiness. Zara’s vendors, employees, friends, family, and insurance agents also actively support the program. More than 60 donors contributed to the program in 2018 for items such as vehicle repair, paint material, mechanical work, gift cards, and monetary gifts exceeding $11,000.
As part of its strategic efforts to grow into new target markets, Christian Brothers has added eight new members to its senior leadership team. The company stated that the recently appointed leaders are all primed to jumpstart various aspects of the brand’s franchising initiatives going into 2019 and beyond.
WAC-STL recently held an open house at V8 Resto & Speed Shop in Red Bud, Ill. WAC-STL presented their vision going into 2019 as being active in promoting women in the automotive and collision industry, had dinner, and thanked sponsors.
A tornado ripped through the property of Country Classic Cars in Staunton, Ill., on Dec. 2, causing significant damage. Nobody at the classic car dealership and shop was injured. The tornado destroyed three buildings and an estimated 100 cars. The business suffered a previous setback in August 2017 when a major fire destroyed 143 cars, which required 13 fire departments to extinguish. Owners Russ and Anita Noel had rebuilt and reopened this past March.
APSA of Illinois recognized Steve Rennison in appreciation of time he has devoted and his service during his third term as president of the organization. Rennison was presented with a handcrafted wooden flag by Past President Jeff Dust, of Dust & Son Auto Supplies. Rennison said he plans on displaying it prominently in his office at the The Auto Shop in Carbondale.
Alloy Wheel Repair Specialists has acquired AWRS Midwest. The acquisition includes AWRS locations in St. Louis; Kansas City, Mo; and Kansas City, Kan.
AASP-MO Gateway Collision Chapter will host a 1234yf certification class followed by the certification test on Monday, Jan. 21. After Jan. 1, a Section 609 certification card will be required to purchase R-12, R-134a, or R-1234yf cylinders of two pounds or more. Distributors will be required to keep records of certified technicians purchasing refrigerant. There are penalty fines for non compliance. AASP-MO members were recognized for service and business leadership in their community. Mike Moehlenkamp, of Gary’s Auto Service, in Florissant, and Steve Pokorny, of STS Car Care, Jennings, received the Paul Harris Fellowship award. They were honored by the Florissant Rotary.
