New Nissan GT-R NISMO features Brembo Brakes
Detroit—Brembo and Nissan technicians have engineered a bespoke braking system for the 2020 Nissan GT-R NISMO and Track Edition. Brembo’s one-piece, six-piston aluminum monoblock front calipers have a more aggressive design enhancing the overall look of the GT-R. The calipers have been designed with integrated tie rod which leads to a stiffer and overall slimmer caliper within the 20 x 10-inch wheel of the GT-R. This all-new caliper design also grabs on to a 16.14 x 1.5-inch (410mm x 38 mm) carbon ceramic disc, one of the largest that Brembo-SGL produces.
“Brembo and Nissan have a rich performance history,” said Dan Sandberg, Brembo North America president and CEO. “Our engineers worked in concert with the Nissan team to take data from the track, and combined that with lessons learned on the previous generation GT-R, to design the next evolution stopping package for this road going super car. The design takes the iconic Brembo look one step further for Nissan.”
The aluminum six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers, together with the lightweight carbon ceramic discs and carbon pads, provide Nissan engineers with approximately 35 pounds of unsprung weight savings over cast iron. This mass reduction, combined with the GT-R’s latest advances, improves the overall dynamics of the vehicle.
E3 Spark Plugs announces 2019 title sponsorship with IMCA
Ponta Vedre, Fla.—E3 Spark Plugs has announced the company’s title sponsorship for the 20th season of the International Motor Contest Association’s (IMCA) State Champions Program. The sponsorship will provide product awards, such as sets of E3 Racing spark plugs as well as other products to the state championship drivers for all eight IMCA divisions. In addition to the title sponsorship program, E3 was also named the Official Spark Plug of IMCA.
“This program allows us to take a national approach to supporting racers in every IMCA division in most every state,” said E3 Vice President of Motorsports Rob Fisher. “And with this program focusing on eight different divisions, we are really hitting a large cross-section of the dirt oval track racer. The storied history of the IMCA and their stature as one of the leading dirt sanctions in the country make this program the perfect avenue for tapping into that crucial grassroots market. It really fills a void we had in our motorsports marketing programs.”
Edelbrock announces new high-performance cylinder heads for GM 6.6L Duramax diesel engines
Torrance, Calif.—Edelbrock has introduced a high-performance cylinder head designed specifically for the diesel engine market.
The new Edelbrock Cylinder Heads for 2001 through 2016 GM 6.6L Duramax Diesel V8 engines are a direct bolt-on replacement for any street or off-road application where higher levels of performance and durability are desired. These aluminum heads come complete and are designed to fit all four variations of the Duramax engine that were offered in the Silverado and Sierra pickup trucks, as well as Chevrolet and GMC 2500/3500 HD trucks between 2001 and 2016. Edelbrock’s new diesel cylinder heads are compatible with all stock Duramax valvetrain components, in addition to valve covers, water crossover valves, injectors and plugs.
Each A356 aluminum cylinder head casting is heat and pressure-treated to reduce porosity while also increasing strength and fatigue properties. Intake and exhaust runners are designed to optimize flow and motion of air in the cylinder. Engine builders and head porters will also appreciate the extra deck and port wall material for custom porting and deck strength. The Edelbrock Performer heads are CARB legal.
MAHLE Motorsport introduces PowerPak Piston Kit for Porsche 996 and 997
Fletcher, N.C.—MAHLE Motorsport has introduced a Porsche 996 and 997 PowerPak Piston Kit for an 82.8mm stroke designed with MAHLE’s unique slipper skirt style forging. Developed for higher performance than the OE piston, the MAHLE Motorsport all forged piston kit delivers power over an expanded RPM range while matching the OE assembly weight.
Designed to work with either Nikasil or cast iron replacement cylinder sleeves, the PowerPak part numbers and ring sets are specific to either cast iron or Nikasil bores. The PowerPak Kit for the Porsche 996 and 997 features MAHLE’s proprietary dual coated, slipper skirt forged pistons that include a dry phosphate coating and Grafal skirt coating to reduce drag and wear. Designed for OE 141.99mm length connecting rods, and 22.0mm wrist pins with a 32.95mm compression height, this Powerpak Piston Kit for the Porsche 996 and 997 provides factory matched ring lands and a compression ratio developed for an extended RPM range.
The 996 kit includes a 1.2mm top, 1.5mm napier second, and a 2.0mm oil ring set. The ring design delivers excellent ring-to-cylinder sealing with low mass without loss of ring stability.
The 997 piston kit is grooved for a 1mm, 1mm, 2mm precision ring set that is included and manufactured to exacting tolerances to ensure maximum performance with a longer life cycle.
Amsoil offers five more products in award-winning Easy-Pack
Superior, Wis.—Amsoil has expanded its easy-pack product offerings to include five new products previously only available in traditional plastic quart containers. The easy-pack allows for improved maneuverability and access to tough-to-reach fill holes. This results in less mess and less wasted product than commonly seen when using traditional quart containers. The easy-pack has undergone extensive testing and development to ensure a durable, all-in-one package that can withstand the aggressive handling.
Yokohama Tire’s Geolander X-MT wins Red Dot award
Santa Ana, Calif.—Yokohama Tire’s rugged Geolander X-MT has earned a 2019 Red Dot award in the Product Design category.
This is the second major award the X-MT has garnered: it received the Good Design award in December.
The X-MT is available in 15 sizes, from 17-inch to 24-inch rim diameters with outside diameters up to 40 inches.
The Red Dot award appraises the best products created every year. The evaluation process is based on various judging criteria, including degree of innovation, functionality, formal quality, ergonomics, durability, symbolic and emotional content, product periphery, self-explanatory quality and ecological compatibility.
